Ryan Irvine, PhD
Vice President, Medical Affairs
Ryan A. Irvine has served as our Vice President, Medical Affairs since October 2016. Prior to joining Sienna, Dr. Irvine served as Vice President, Head of Medical Affairs at Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, where he established and led the medical communications practice until the company was acquired in 2015. Prior to Kythera, Ryan was at Elan Pharmaceuticals, managing a large Medical Affairs organization in support of the company’s marketed and investigational products from May 2012 to July 2013. From 2003 to 2008, Dr. Irvine worked at Allergan and held roles of increasing responsibility in Medical Affairs, including Therapeutic Head for Neurology and Toxin Science, responsible for setting scientific strategy and directing the post-marketing clinical trial portfolio for BOTOX. Dr. Irvine also is experienced in risk modeling, serving as Sr. Director for Biosciences Risk Research from 2008 to 2012 at the Silicon Valley firm, RMS, and as the Chief Biological Scientist of Praedicat, Inc., a joint venture of RMS and the RAND Corporation. Dr. Irvine holds B.S. (Biochemistry) and M.S. (Neurobiology) degrees from Boston College and received his Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Southern California. He served as the ARCS Foundation Research Fellow from 2001 to 2003 at the USC/Norris Cancer Center where his research was broadly focused on the molecular genetics of cancer and aging.
